The Gernot Rohr tutored Super Eagles had big dream to win the world cup in Russia following their outstanding run in the qualifiers for the world cup. The manner at which they decisioned the Albiceleste of Argentina 4:2 in an international friendly that was played last November suggest that the Eagles would surpass all expectations, prove doubters wrong by going all the way in the Russia 2018 world cup.

But the outcome of its friendly International against Eastern European opponents, Poland and Serbia portends worrying signals and the timing bomb is just waiting to explode. They labored to pip Poland 1-0 without any meaningful impact in the match to elicit great enthusiasm and hope in the fast approaching world cup. They were uncoordinated with their passes, and the defense was often suspect; courtesy of a porous midfield. The attack lacked bite and potency and the display of the entire team was absolutely shambolic.

On the other hand, the Serbians did exposed our weaknesses and made soccer loving Nigerians to swallow their pride amid the daunting hope of winning the world cup! Against the Serbs, the Eagles were beaten 2-0 and were exposed in all areas of the game.  With the world cup barely 76 days away. Our dream of taking the world by Storm in Russia has faded considerably, and our hope is no longer feasible.

By this assertion and analysis, it therefore implies that placing so much hope and high expectations on this bunch of lads that are considered by FIFA as the youngest team going to the Russia 2018 world cup, will be counterproductive. We have to thread with caution as the team is definitely one for the future. Indeed, the next world cup in Qatar will provide the perfect platform for the boys, who by 2022, must have garnered immense international experience and exposure to take on the rest of the world, and perhaps considered as favorite to win the world cup.
