1. Roger Federer: Cool, Calm and…urh Champ?
The defending champion is the first on our list of possible winners especially if one considers that he had a successful outing in Perth some days ago, we ask if his defence of the hopman cup title could perhaps be a case of certain signs preceding certain events?
Fresh from retaining the winners medal in the latest edition of the mastercard hopman cup together with swiss teammate Belinda Bencic, Roger Federer looks primed to defend his title.
The recurring theme in the career of this illustrious great has been his cool demeanor which often tips fans’ bias towards him and to his credit, he uses it advantageously. One gets the picture that he could well ride on fan support as he aspires for glory in Melbourne.
Also, with his mobility around the court tailing off as his career winds down (hey, whisper it quietly), he has tailored his game around baseline rallies, deft drop shots and well-timed runs to the net.
In my view, he looks like he’s ticked all boxes that would aid his title defence for the third year running having won the 2017, and 2018 installments especially considering that prior to winning the Aussie open last year, he won the mastercard hopman cup.
This thus begs the question could winning the hopman cup perhaps be a telltale sign of what his fortunes in Melbourne might be once more?
Only time will tell…
