Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has warned Victor Osimhen not to be carried away by the hype surrounding his recent success in Nigeria’s team.

Ighalo’s warning came after Osimhen helped Nigeria defeat Benin Republic and Lesotho to come top of Group L in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ighalo himself retired from international duty after Super Eagles’ third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where he won the Golden Boot for scoring five goals in Egypt.

Victor Osimhen took over the No. 9 shirt and has been in top form for the country’s squad.

Reacting to the youngster’s outstanding performance during Nigeria versus Lesotho clash which ended in 4-2 victory, Ighalo said to ESPN:

“I always told him that he has everything it takes to lead this attack, but it all depends on him.

“I told him he has to keep working hard, stay humble and always be ready to learn, and above all not to get carried away with success or hype but just to keep improving.”
