Lionel Messi bounced back from his not so impressive performance in El Clasico against Real Madrid last week by scoring his 50th goal of 2019 to help Barcelona thrash Alaves 4-1 in La Liga match on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann scored the opening goal in 14 minutes having taken a pass inside the penalty area from Arturo Vidal and man of the match, Luis Suarez.

Vidal doubled the lead at half time. But Pere Pons’ header 10 minutes after half time put Alaves back into the game.

Alaves threatened go add another goal until Messi curled home a brilliant third goal for Barcelona.

Suarez scored the fourth goal from a penalty shot after a handball Martin Aguirregabiria in the 18 box.

Barcelona have now ended year 2019 on top of La Liga table. The Camp Nou side will play their next game on Saturday, 4 January against Espanyol. Alaves will face Real Betis at home the next day.
