Anthony Martial scored twice as Manchester United thrashed Burnley 4-1 in Premier League Boxing Day match at Old Trafford.
United seemed to be in slumber as Newcastle controlled the game in the early first half. But the Red Devils’ eyes cleared when teenager Matty Longstaff gave Newcastle a 17th minute lead.
Then Martial equalised minutes later to calm United’s fans nerves. Mason Greenwood’s goal took the lead from Newcastle before Marcus Rashford slotted in the third goal to give the hosts a comfortable lead against the visitors in the first half.
Martial scored his second goal in the game and the fourth for United in the 51st minute.
United continued to control the game with Paul Pogba showing top skills in the midfield and even attempted to score at least twice when he came in as a substitute.
Boxing Day victory against Newcastle is United’s perfect response to miserable 2-0 defeat to Watford on Sunday which places them four points behind fourth placed Chelsea in premier league.
Next, United will visit Burnley on Saturday while Newcastle face Everton same day.
