Boxing Day ended miserably for Chelsea as the Blues were defeated 2-0 at home by Southampton.

Trouble started for Frank Lampard’s side when Saints midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg¬†dispossessed Blues winger Callum Hudson-Odoi¬†and passed it to Michael Obafemi who fired from his left foot into the net.

Chelsea pushed for an equalizer with an attempt from Cesar Azpilicueta but the move unfortunately slacked their defense.

Southampton struck again when James Ward-Prowse flicked past Rudigier and crossed into Nathan Redmond who doubled the lead for the Saints as he shot the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga into the net.

The Saints held their defense against Chelsea’s forceful attacks most especially from Tammy Abraham.

This is Lampard’s fifth defeat at Stamford Bridge and the first time Chelsea have lost on Boxing Day for 15 years.

The game shows Lampard has a lot of work to do with his players in the upcoming league match against Arsenal on Sunday.
