Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has lost £90m out of £247m he invested in the club in 2018. The money was paid as compensation to sacked managers.
According to Chelsea’s 2018-2019 accounts, £26.6m was paid to Antonio Conte after he and his backroom staff were sacked in July 2018. Conte helped Chelsea to win the 2017 premier league title but was sacked with 12 months left in his contract.
Chelsea failed to qualify for Champions League in 2018 but won the FA Cup under Conte before he left.
The former Italian midfielder was replaced by Maurizio Sarri who also left the club in the summer of 2019, one year into a three-year contract.
Chelsea also invested £280.6m in buying players between 2018-2019 with the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho part of the squad the club recently signed.
