Polish-born Nigerian defender Ashley Akpan has been released by Premier League side Chelsea, according to Football Insider.

The 15 years old defender has been permitted to look for other clubs since Chelsea have not offered him any scholarship deal for the 2020-2021 season.

But it is also understood that though Akpan remains with Chelsea, he will also be allowed to try for other clubs as he looks to secure a scholarship or professional deal elsewhere.

Although a defender, Akpan can also play as a midfielder and his versatility has reportedly attracted the attention of other clubs.

Born in Warsaw to a Nigerian father and Polish mother, the 15-year-old who turns 16 next month has represented Poland at youth level.

But he is also eligible to represent Nigeria and England at the international level.
