Jordan Ayew’s equalising goal for Crystal Palace denied Mikel Arteta’s hope of a third victory since he became Arsenal head coach.

Arsenal dominated the first half and Captain Aubameyang put the Gunners ahead with a 12th minute goal.

But Ayew levelled the game for the Eagles when his shot bounced off David Luiz and past keeper Bernd Leno into the net at the 54th minute.

Then Aubameyang was sent off the pitch with a red card after his challenge caught Max Meyer on the left ankle. He was initially given a yellow card by the referee but it was overturned by VAR as a red card.

Palace came close to losing one of their players to a red card with James Tomkins’ late challenge on Gabriel Martinelli.

Both Tomkins and Pepe almost scored winning goals for their sides. Pepe’s shot was tipped off by Palace keeper Guaita who also intercepted Lacazette’s shot when the ball rebounded at the 18 box while Tomkins’ header cleared off the line.

Thus the game ended with Arteta without an away win since he became Gunners head coach.

Crystal Palace remain 9th in premier league with just a point above Arsenal.
