AC Milan eliminated Spal to advance to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday at San Siro.
It was an easy victory as Spal hardly proved to be a threat to a more organised Milan.
Krzysztof Piatek opened the scoring in the 20th minute and assisted Samu Castillejo’s 44th minute goal to increase the lead for Milan.
The Italian giants continued to dominate the ball in the second half and Theo Hernandez added the third goal in the 66th minute.
Spal thought they had a chance to score through a penalty when substitute Lucas Paqueta was booked for blocking the ball with his arm at the 18 box. But a VAR check reversed the decision, thus saving Milan from conceding a goal.
Milan, who are struggling in Italian Serie A at 10th position, will now face Torino in the quarter-finals before facing either Inter Milan or Juventus in the semi-finals.
Next, Milan will host Udinese in Serie A match this weekend while Spal also visit Atalanta this weekend.
