Chelsea fans have already got one club legend back in the form of Frank Lampard.

And they may not have to wait too long before the prodigal son returns too.

John Terry is cutting his management teeth as assistant to Dean Smith at Aston Villa – a position he has held for almost two seasons now.

Lampard enjoyed just one season in the Championship, as manager of Derby County, before being given the big job back at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard was joined by another former Chelsea man in Jody Morris when he was handed the reins last summer, with Morris arriving from Derby, where he had also been Lampard’s assistant.

But the Blues supporters would love nothing more than to see former club captain and Blues legend Terry return to the coaching staff at Stamford Bridge too.

Terry spent almost his entire career with the Blues, winning every piece of silverware going.

And in a conversation with YouTuber Frank Khalid, the former centre-back praised the work his old mate Lampard had done at the club in his first season.

Terry said: “It’s been incredible, for me there was no one better than to give Lamps the job, with Jody as well he’s got someone who knows and trusts the younger players and worked with them at youth team and U18 level, so it’s been a superb mix, the expectation has been excellent because the group they’ve had this year have done really, really well.

“I’ve been really impressed with the style of play, the capabilities of the younger players coming through and that mix with the likes of Cesar [Azpilicueta] and the experienced ones helping them along the way, giving them support in Frank’s first season. I’m really pleased to see the lads doing so well.”

Khalid suggested that what Chelsea could really do with, is some help at the back, having conceded 39 goals in the Premier League this season – more than everyone else in the top half of the table bar Tottenham and Burnley, who have let in 40 each.

And the YouTuber said the Blues needed Terry back to sort out that defence.

Terry laughed, and gave Chelsea fans everywhere cause to get excited with a two-word response: “One day.”
