The FA Cup replays have been scrapped for the 2020/2021 season, as confirmed by the Football Association.

The football body revealed in a statement released on Thursday that the decision was made “to assist in easing pressure on the football schedule and to ensure that domestic competitions can still be delivered”.

In addition, this season’s FA Cup will not be as lucrative for clubs as the previous season due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

The overall prize fund will return to the 2017/18 level as the winners will receive £1.8m, down from £3.6m in the 2019-20 season.

The 2020/21 season will start with an extra preliminary round on September 1, with the final due to be played at Wembley on May 15, 2021.

Arsenal are the reigning champions of the tournament having beaten rivals Chelsea 2-1.
