Chelsea is getting close to signing Thiago Silva on a one-year deal.

The former PSG defender left the club after Champions League final in which the French side lost the title to Bayern Munich on Sunday.

Thiago, 35, is currently on free transfer and will be signed by Frank Lampard who is looking to strengthen his team’s defence.

Chelsea’s poor defence was very obvious during the 2019/2020 season and the club is hoping to take care of that before the new season starts.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea may have to offload one of their four senior centre-halves in order to raise funds: Fikayo Tomori has been linked with a loan move to Rennes, there has been talk of Kurt Zouma heading in the opposite direction while Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are entering the final two years of their current deals.

Thiago will be a major boost at Stamford Bridge with his wealth if experience.

The Brazil international who spent eight years with PSG after joining from AC Milan in 2012, have won seven Ligue 1 titles but failed to win the most desired trophy in France – the Champions League.

He apologized to the fans following the defeat to Bayern Munich.

“It was my last game in Paris. I am sad. I apologise to the fans. I thank all the fans for their love. I will return to Paris in another role. I want to play three-to four years again and play the HOM in Qatar,’ he said.
