Manchester United have decided to keep Harry Maguire as team captain in the upcoming season despite his three-year suspended prison sentence.

Maguire who was initially named in the England squad was removed after he was given a three-year suspended prison sentence for being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts of bribery.

The world’s most expensive defender was arrested with his brother and a friend after a fight broke out while he was on holiday in Mykonos over claims his sister was injected with a suspected “rape drug”.

The 27-year-old who will be appealing against his sentence, has left Greece and is expected to return to Manchester in the coming days.
