Alex Iwobi made his first appearance of the season count by scoring to help Everton beat Fleetwood Town to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Two Richarlison goals put the Toffees ahead in the first half.

But a blunder from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford allowed substitute Mark Duffy a free shot three minutes after restart.

Iwobi restored the double lead with a goal in the 49th minute only for England’s number one keeper to make another error when he touched Callum Camps’ overhead kick which was straight at him but could not keep it out.

It made for an uncomfortable final half-hour, even after Bernard fired home a fourth and substitute Moise Kean scored with Everton’s last kick of the night.

Fleetwood will be back in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday when they host AFC Wimbledon.

Everton travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, also on Saturday, and will face West Ham at home in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
