Athletico Madrid suffered a big blow as new signing Luis Suarez tested positive for coronavirus and will not be available for the much anticipated reunion with Barcelona when La Liga resumes after the international break.

Suarez contracted the disease during his international duty for Uruguay.

The Uruguayan Football Association confirmed that the Atletico Madrid striker, goalkeeper Rodrigo Munoz and backroom staff member Matias Faral have all contracted the disease while on international duty.

The three of them are currently self-isolating and are in good health.

A statement from the AUF said:

“Luis Suarez, Rodrigo Munoz and the official Matias Faral having tested positive for Covid-19, while all other tests are negative.

“The three members mentioned are in good health and the corresponding measures have already been implemented.”

Apart from missing Barcelona match, Suarez will also not be available in a crucial international fixture against Brazil on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

The 33-year-old was on target for his country when they defeated Colombia by 3-0 in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier.
