Nigerian football legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha has scored Gernot Rohr seven out of ten for his performance as the Super Eagles head coach.

Rohr has come under heavy criticisms in recent times especially after the Super Eagles threw away their four-goal lead in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone in Benin City and couldn’t score a single goal during the return match in Freetown.

Some Nigerians, including the Youths and Sports Minister Sunday Dare, have made calls to remove Rohr as the head coach of the national team.

However, Okocha has a different opinion about Rohr’s performance in the Eagles team.

When asked about his thoughts on Rohr as Eagles coach, Okocha, in a chat with former teammate Ifeanyi Udeze on ‘No Holds Barred’ a radio programme on Brila FM on Tuesday, said:”For now I will score him seven out of 10 because when he came in things were not steady and he has steadied the ship now.

“He inherited an abandoned team and so for now he is following his own direction, he has created his own team. But we all know football is about results, of course if the results don’t go his way our people will criticise him, you know everybody in Nigeria is a coach. But if results go his way of course we will praise him. Even if you are the best coach if you don’t get result you will be under pressure.”

And when asked about Rohr’s contract extension, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Bolton Wanderers star backed the NFF move.

“I’m in support of the contract extension because for every country to be successful you need continuity and you need direction.

“But if we keep hiring and firing we wouldn’t be able to build the team. So I believe it’s a good step it’s just for the results to improve.”
