Paris St-Germain have said an initial assessment of key striker Neymar’s ankle injury has been “reassuring”.

Neymar was seriously injured from from Thiago Mendes challenge in PSG 1-0 loss to Lyon on Sunday’s Ligue 1.

The Brazilian forward was stretchered out of the game in tears while Mendes was sent off with a red card.

Recall that FrujuSports had reported that Neymar’s injury could rule him out of the season.

However, the online publication has now learned that “the medical examinations carried out on Neymar are reassuring following his twisted ankle in Sunday’s game against Lyon,” according to PSG .

Neymar will be hoping the damage is not too serious and does not rule him out of the Champions League last-16 tie against his former club Barcelona.

The 28-year-old joined PSG for a world record fee of 222m euros (£200m) from Barcelona in August 2017.

He has helped the club win three successive Ligue 1 titles as well as reach last season’s Champions League final.
