Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi earned a first point for struggling West Brom at Etihad Stadium since 2005 with an equalizer against Manchester City on Tuesday’s Premier League game.

City had set the course for their customary home win against Albion when Ilkay Gundogan applied a first-time finish to Raheem Sterling’s cutback after half an hour.

But Super Eagles star Ajayi equalised after his shot deflected off Ruben Dias and wrong-footed City keeper Ederson two minutes before the break.

It is the first goal City had conceded in 608 minutes and was followed by a valiant backs-to-the-wall effort from Slaven Bilic’s visitors, who defended heroically.

Meanwhile, West Brom remain 15th on the table while City are sixth, with five points off the top of the table.
