Super Eagles star and Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis has been thrown into mourning after his elder brother died during a sailing race in Lagos, Nigeria.
Popti Emmanuel Dennis, who was in early 40s, was killed after his boat capsized for an unknown reason.
His brother was granted compassionate leave to attend his funeral which is scheduled to hold today Wednesday 16 December before flying back to Belgium on Thursday.
“Despite an intense search, all help came too late,” Club Brugge said in a statement published on their official website.
“Popti Emmanuel Dennis was known in Nigeria as a very renowned and experienced sailor who represented his country at the Africa Games.
“As a member of the Nigerian Navy, he also regularly participated in international regattas”.
Dennis flew to Nigeria on Sunday shortly after the 2-0 win at Royal Antwerp, a game in which he was a non-playing substitute.
