Alex Iwobi was in full action for Everton who were eliminated in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal through late goals from Edison Cavani and Anthony Martial for Manchester United.

Everton withstood pressure from United in the first half despite goalkeeper Robin Olsen having some shaky moments in the early stages.

Then Cavani found the bottom corner in the 88th minute to break the deadlock in their quarter-final clash on Wednesday night, while substitute Martial sealed the win with the last kick of the game at Goodison Park.

The win leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the right course to win his first silverware as United boss while Carlo Ancelotti is left frustrated after failing his attempt to end Everton’s 25-year trophy drought.

Meanwhile United will now face Manchester City in the semi-finals for the second year in a row. The Red Devils were knocked out by Pep Guardiola’s side over two legs at the same stage last season, but on this occasion they will welcome their rivals to Old Trafford for a one-off tie in the first week of January.
